日の出、日の出時

Many Japanese people worship the new year’s first sunrise. This custom became popular in Meiji era.
多くの日本人が初日の出を拝むが、この風習は明治時代に広まった。

※ちなみに「元旦」というのは字の形を見れば解るとおり(“旦”の字は地平線から上る太陽の意味)、本来は「元日の日の出」を表す言葉だった。それが転じて1月1日の朝を指す意味を持つようになり、1月1日そのものを表す言葉としても使われる様になったのは最近の話である。
