※直接の子や孫より、遠い子孫を指す場合が多い。また形容詞として用いる場合はスペルを descendent と綴ることもある。

孔子の子孫は現在まで辿ることができる。

※2009年9月の時点で最も若い子孫は孔子から数えて83代目の少女で、家系図の”孔子世家譜”には全世界で200万人以上の子孫の名前が収録されている。またこの家系図はギネス認定による「世界一長い家系図」でもある。
