ここでの we 及び ourself は、社説などの筆者が “I” や “myself” の代わりに用いて自分を表面に出すことを避けようとしたり、編集者全体を漠然とさして言ったりする用法である(editorial we)。他に国王の公式の自称としても用いられる(royal we)。editorial we の再帰代名詞は ourselves で受ける事も多いが、royal we の方は ourself のみである。
